There’s a plethora of recipes online you can experiment with. Below is a typical traditional recipe.
SBS basic sourdough recipe
I love this SBS basic sourdough recipe. I taught myself how to bake by following this recipe. It makes two loaves and has a great step-by-step video to follow along with that demonstrates the various techniques.
To help you plan your bake, work back from the day you’d like to bake your bread.
For example, if you’re planning to bake first thing Sunday morning, on Friday morning, feed your starter by following the Preparing your starter for baking instructions.
On Friday night, follow step one in the recipe – making the levain, and stand on bench overnight for 12 hours.
After making your levain, feed what is left of your starter (20 grams of starter from the old jar and into new jar, add 50 grams of rye flour and 75 grams of filtered water) and store back in the fridge.
Saturday morning, follow step 2 of the recipe onward. Storing the dough in the fridge (cold proofing) overnight, produces a more sour flavour.
Sunday morning bake your bread, let it cool down for an an hour or two (hard, I know) and enjoy!!
If you like my work but can’t afford a paid subscription (I get it, it’s tough right now), please Buy me a coffee – only $5.00 AUD because I love coffee as much as I love sourdough!! Tx
